New Forest Service Expert to be placed in Orono

The USDA Forest Service is working with the University of Maine, through Forest Bioproducts Research institute (FBRI) and Advanced Structures and Composites Center (ASCC), to station a new Forest Service expert in Orono, ME.

This position is with the USDA Forest Service, Forest Products Laboratory’s Engineering Composites Science Research Work Unit, and is located in Orono, ME. The selectee will be expected to use material science approaches to optimize processes, improve efficiency, and exploit opportunity for new advanced bio-based composites. The position is responsible to integrate other specialists in materials science, chemistry, biological science and engineering into a cohesive, highly focused research team.

This is a research position and is classified under the scientist career plan. Research scientists have open-ended promotion potential. Research accomplishments and their impact on the duties and responsibilities of positions are evaluated periodically. The grade level is limited only by the individual’s demonstrated ability to perform research of recognized importance to science and technology. Final grade level may be determined by a peer review panel.
