My Research
The project objective is to apply hemicellulose extraction procedures to thin wood strands for their subsequent use in the manufacture of composite building materials. This requires determination of the extraction influence on the physical and mechanical attributes of the wood, the influence of that change on the bonding and manufacture process, and ultimately on final product performance. Changes in Volatile Organic Compound production will be quantified.
In Other Words
We are trying to see if we can simultaneously use part of wood to make ethanol and turn the rest of the wood into a material which can be used to build houses. We will also measure if this new way of doing things will be better for the environment.
